Feeling like a million bucks!

Recently the first Zara store was launched in South Africa amidst a flurry of social media frenzy. Situated in the beautiful new wing of the Sandton City shopping centre the store as well as its contents blows you away at first sight.

Being a cash-strapped student I haven’t exactly had the opportunity to actually personally sample the store’s wares. So of course when I heard that Sandton City was having a summer sale I rushed myself from Pretoria to Joburg for some fun-filled bargain shopping!

Now, I’m not much of a brand-loving type, but any fashionista would never say no to shopping at stores like Mango...especially if you’re a penniless student hungry for a bargain! So, naturally, when I found a beautiful pair of camel-coloured high-waisted Mango shorts on their half-price sale I rushed myself to the till clutching the shorts in absolute ecstasy.

I was also able to finally call an item from Zara my own when I bought a capped sleeve black basic t-shirt made of the most fantastic velvet-like cotton.

Imagine me, walking with Mango and Zara bags in Sandton City...I felt like a million bucks! I can’t wait to create some outfits with my new key pieces and share them with my lovely readers!

Naturally inspired!

Inspired by the beautiful Carolina Herrera Spring 2012 collection, with its upbeat bird prints offset by ethereal blues, greys and neutrals (view the collection here), I set out to find some nature-inspired accessories that could inject my wardrobe with some much needed Herrera flair. I found a fantastic pair of leaf earrings in gold and white at Mr Price for only R15.99, which I’m already wearing almost every day! Another great find is a pair of feather earrings from Identity in a purple-blue that reminds me instantly of the Carolina Herrera collection!

So why not set out for a little end-of-the month pay-day celebration shopping spree yourself? There’s nothing like retail therapy!

What’s on her nails??

Today Pretty Little Pigeons is launching a new segment called ‘What’s on her nails?’, where the lovely Chicara from South African blog Lipgloss Kisses will regularly be sharing with us what she’s currently wearing on her nails! The first colour she’s sharing with us is a glamorous gold from Essence Colour and Go called ‘Just in Case’.

Hearts, stripes and polka dots.

Dress, Mr Price. Shoes, Ackermans. Earrings, Jay Jays. Sunglasses, Identity. Nail Polish, Michellori Paris, Fantasia.

Taking advantage of the warm Pretoria weather this past weekend, I had some fun with mixed prints and a cute little Yorkshire terrier named Redgy.

Mixed prints are all the rage right now, so if you’re somewhat wary of looking like an overdressed circus clown, why not start small by mixing up the prints on small items like your accessories. I mixed a heart print scarf (used as a belt) with polka dot earrings and a simple striped dress.

While the weather’s still hot and balmy take to the streets in crazy mixed prints and bright colours and have some last minute summertime fun!

Do you hear the bells ringing?

I recently took some pictures at a friend's wedding that I really wanted to share with you! It was a magical pink-themed wedding and the flamingoes outside the church contributed beautifully to the theme... Don't you just love the sound of wedding bells?

There’s a trick to every trade...

Peep-toe wedges, Mellisa at 36boutiques

Red postman bag, Habits

Grey high-heeled courts, Foschini at 36boutiques

Leather belt, Habits

The saying goes, there’s a trick to every trade...and whenever I’m confronted by the mysterious ability of art to speak to the soul or the undeniable strength of a well-written poem, I think of this saying. It’s true there truly is a trick to every trade, every tradesmen has something up his or her sleeve that makes his work unique.

I have a friend who seems to have a few tricks to her repertoire and in the process she creates the most beautiful mosaic that I simply had to photograph. Of course I have a few tricks of my own and therefore I’ve paired her mosaic with some items found on a fruitful online shopping session.

If you’re just as moved by her art as I am you can contact the artist for some unique mosaic pieces of your own:

Maxi Inspiration!

Inspired by my favourite South African blogger Laiqah from Lucky-Packet who always wears the most amazing maxi skirts, I’ve embarked on an epic search for the perfect maxi skirt. My quest is only at its meagre beginnings, but already I’ve found two possible candidates!

First I need to apologise for the horrible quality of the photos, fitting rooms don’t exactly have picture perfect lighting...

My first candidate is an absolute bargain buy at only R119.95, a beautiful purple skirt, complete with pockets (don’t you just love pockets in skirts?) which I found at Mr Price! The second candidate in the running for the title of the perfect maxi skirt is currently on sale at Truworths for only R270! It’s a magically neutral camel colour and has the added advantage of coming with a belt.
So, which one would you vote for?
