A bird in hand is worth two in a bush.

Check out this pretty little birdie t-shirt I spotted on one of my friends! This t-shirt was actually handpainted by the sister of a friend...how’s that for innovative mixing of fashion and art! For those of you who love my take on all things fancy, I’ve got another formal dinner coming up so watch this space for some pics of fashionable evening wear!

Feeling a little blue?

All of us are feeling a bit at the end of our ropes, what with the spring break nearing and the pressure of year-end exams starting to build. So I’m taking to finding some hope in the little things...call me crazy, but finding this 38-year-old vintage scarf in my mom’s closet that she used to wear when she was at university made all my troubles seem just a tiny bit smaller. She even tells me she also used wear it in her hair just like I do! So today I paired my scarf with Essie’s ‘Midnight Cami’ navy blue nail polish and stepped into the world feeling a little less heavy hearted.

All that glitters is not gold!

All that glitters is not gold...sometimes it’s silver! Okay, bad title I know...but you win some you lose some right?

Anyway, this weekend I decided to get a bit crafty and made myself these awesome mini-cutlery earrings! I bought everything I used from a nifty little shop called Ruby’s haberdashery in Brooklyn, so next time you’re in that neck of the woods make sure you stop by because they’ve got anything your artsy crafty heart desires! I simply used a pair of pliers to attach the tiny knives and forks (and spoons) to the actual earring hook and now I’ve got tiny cutlery hanging from my ears!

Shared joy is a double joy...

I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been blessed with beautiful friends whom I love to photograph. Today I share with you the photographs I took of two friends on their way to a vintage themed dance.  While taking these pictures I realised that a pretty dress can only be as pretty as the inner beauty of the wearer.  Cherish your friendships and live life to the full and pretty things will automatically become part of your life...
Shared joy is a double joy;  Shared sorrow is half a sorrow...

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

I’ve been a bit busy with tests this week so posting regularly has proven to be a bit of a challenge, but as they say absence makes the heart  grow fonder. I do however have the time to share with you my favourite new looks from the Spring 2012 collections currently being showcased at London Fashion Week. This is the new collection by Matthew Williamsom. I love the use of bold colour and interesting prints and the way the flowing silhouettes are feminine in a subtly sexy way.  After an especially frustrating test yesterday I found some solace in walking through the shops looking for ways to incorporate the Matthew Williamson look into my own wardrobe, why don’t you do the same?  Happy shopping and start looking forward to an exciting DIY jewellery post coming soon...!

Earn your stripes...

I’ve been blessed with amazing, truly inspiring friends so whenever I get the chance to photograph them I feel truly honoured. To be honest I think I’d be happy if I could just spend every day following my friends around photographing them and sharing their inspirational style and charm with everyone who reads my blog!
The moment I saw my friend Linette in this pretty striped dress the nagging need to capture her look started bothering me... so here she is in her lovely striped outfit. Doesn’t she just make you wish we lived in the time of Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn?

Paint the town red!

I’m currently going through a bit of a red madness phase, hence these bright red lace-up sandals I simply can’t get enough of! When I wore these with a grey top and black shorts yesterday I kind got the feeling everyone was staring at my feet...Loving the attention! Lace-up sandals are all the rage at the moment so make sure you get yourself a pair in a bright colour, combine it with a neutral outfit and in no time people won’t be able to take their eyes off your feet.
I’m also sporting this bright coral-red colour on my nails at the moment to go with my crazy red phase. This colour is from Rimmel’s 60 seconds range and is called ‘Coralicious’.

The Life of the PARTY!

Last night I attended yet another formal dinner that’s part and parcel of the UP residence social calendar, but this time I was forced to look at things with a fresh perspective. Armed with my trusty little camera I went to the dinner with the intention of snapping some pics of all things fashionable!
I finally got the opportunity to wear this beautiful eclectic yellow dress which I first set sight on about four years ago!! Needless to say I was the one in the room with the crazy yellow dress that stood out like a sore (yet fashionable) thumb.
I even spotted some pretty funky men’s fashion. Check out this blazer with its interesting jean-like pattern and great button detail, apparently bought on a sale at Markhams.

I also spotted this lovely couple looking very trendy, following the ever-popular flower trend and finishing the look off with a bold colour!

This look blew me away merely due to its simple elegance. The detail on the shoulder takes the dress from normal to spectacular!

This is definitely my favourite look of the night, not only because the wearer is the friend who inspired my blog, but also because this romantic Forever New dress paired with the ballet-like heels reminds me of the romantic look of the 2011 Chloe spring/summer collection that has everyone who’s anyone in fashion raving.

A leopard cannot change its spots.

They say a leopard cannot change its spots...so I say, why not embrace it? The fashionably feline trend seems to be catching on and I’ve been lusting after owning my very own leopard print scarf for quite some while. After agonising over many expensive versions I finally found this one at Mr Price!
Embrace the spots, or be left behind!
The Sartorialist clearly agrees with me.. Check it out at:

Hot off the press!!

Today I provide you with step by step instructions on how to create your own awesome newspaper nail-art!
1.       Paint your nails with a light solid colour and make sure you apply at least 3 coats.
2.       Once your nails have dried properly, dip a piece of newspaper into some alcohol. I used gin but you can also use vodka or any other spirits.
3.       Press the wet newspaper onto your nail to transfer the newsprint to your nails.
4.       Finish off with a clear top coat and enjoy your new DIY nail art!
Have a look at the blog where I found this fantastic idea:
A Cup of Style Blog

Great oaks grow from little acorns.

The idea for this blog started forming in my head when I continually felt the urge to photograph a friend of mine’s outfits, so I could share her amazing fashion sense with the rest of the world. I kept thinking: style so unique should not be hidden, but rather shared.
My own sense of style is still growing, along with my writing skills, which I sometimes feel I need to apologize for, and my amateur attempts at photography.  However, I take solace in the saying: Great oaks grow from little acorns. So make sure you watch this space...
The little acorn that I am, I couldn’t help but share this outfit with you...So creative, yet perfect for everyday campus wear!

Only real friends will tell you when your face is dirty.

I attended a friend’s birthday part last night at the fabulous Moyo Restuarant in Fountains Valley. I felt truly overwhelmed by the bountiful friendships that my few years at University has given me and sharing a meal together while getting our faces painted brought to mind the proverb: only real friends tell you when your face is dirty...what a beautiful truth! In between all this my camera and I got the time to spot some lovely accessories that are perfectly fitting for spring time!

All cats are grey in the dark.

With 7 September being Tuks Springday and this day being one the biggest events on the Tuks social calendar me and my camera felt slightly overwhelmed by the vast amount of spring fashion we got to witness these past two days.
Girls dressed in beautiful flowery dresses and jumpsuits seems to be the flavour of the month and while I love the blossoming garments my day was made by the discovery of this fantastic vintage handbag, which turned out to be an heirloom passed down by the wearer’s grandmother! With her understated dressing the handbag becomes the center of attention and she definitely stood out from amongst the background of flowery dressing and this makes her my choice for the number one springday fashionista!

What I wore... pretty colourful seashell prints trying very hard to compete with the flowers all around!

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

I’m just another student at the University of Pretoria fascinated by the pretty little girls on their way to the grown-up world.  I’ll be blogging about the crazy and cute things these girls are wearing as they go about their daily lives. I also fancy myself some kind of an amateur photographer and every single photo on this blog will be my own. I don’t make myself out to be some kind of a fashion guru with my eye on the trends and my nose in fashion magazines all day... I just love clothes and the hidden creativity that we can unleash while performing the menial task of getting dressed every day!
I named the blog after the curious little pigeons that are part of the landscape on our beautiful campus...I intend to try and see life through their eyes and in the process become more aware of the beautiful little things life has to offer.
Life can sometimes deal you some pretty bad cards, but despite this my motto for this blog and life is making the most of what of your given and finding joy in the pretty little things around you...
